  1. Any in the family Xyelidae of sawflies.
    — Like raphidiids, xyelids have the mesopleuron divided into an episternum and epimeron by a distinct mesopleural suture, but the suture is angled much more obliquely and the epimeron is much smaller than the episternum (Figs. 8-10).
