    — Hope may not, currently, shine brightly. The light on the hill may be dim, imperceptible. But if there is a light, it comes from the original idea of democracy as the only possible antidote to trapezocracy and to the calamities that it has in store for us.

Neologism, from Greek τράπεζα (trápeza, bank) + -cracy. Attested in 2011 in the writings of Yanis Varoufakis. Saw increasing Internet usage during and after the Occupy Wall Street protests.
