  1. A tool in the form of a short commonly-tapered metal rod, principally used to align holes in two items, so that a bolt, rod or other item can be inserted through them; sometimes incorporating a spanner at the larger end, to tighten nuts onto bolts.
    — There comes a time, when you are burning off bolts, when it is the only thing that will do. It's a useful tool, the podger, but, like the mind map, you shouldn't mistake it for a universal screwdriver.
