    — As an inordinate production of epidermis dependent on hypertrophy of the papillæ of the skin, it has a title to a place in this group, while its principal character, namly, that of thickening and condensation of the skin, seems to point to pachylosis (καχὸς, crassitudo) as a fitting description.
