    — Valves in natural populations usually linear to lanceolate elongate with obtusely rounded apices, in culture rather linear elongate, sometimes opephoroid, with broadly rounded head pole and acutely rounded footpole, 6.5–13.3 (in culture), up to 18.9 (in natural population) μm long, 3–4.3 μm in width.
