  1. A quasi-contract imposing a duty to reimburse an intervenor (gestor) who has seen to, managed, or looked after the affairs, property, or interests of another (dominus), but without the latter’s consent uncountable
    — MT ARGUN; SHERIFF OF CAPE TOWN AND ANOTHER v MT ARGUN, HER OWNERS AND ALL PERSONS INTERESTED IN HER AND ANOTHER 2000 (4) SA 857 (C) @ 685. The gestor is only entitled to reimbursement of expenses and not to remuneration, the underlying principle being that negotiorum gestio arises from an act of generosity and friendship and is not aimed at allowing the gestor to make a profit out of his administration.
