  1. a linear, unbranched polysaccharide, that is naturally produced by some fungi, like certain species of Aspergillus
    — In spite of the variety of monomers and linkages available, most of the common polysaccharides are homopolymers, e.g., cellulose, amylose, xylan, and mannan, or they consist of repeating sequences of two sugar monomers with the same repeating linkage such as mycodextran and the mucopolysaccharides in connective tissue.
