line of beauty

名词 n.

英文释义

名词 n.
  1. A curved line that is supposedly inherently beautiful. It is represented in different ways by different authors, although usually as a kind of elongated S (like the one in William Hogarth’s painting in this entry).
    — Every line is the line of beauty; it is only fumble and bungle which cannot draw a line. This only is ugliness. That is not a line which doubts and hesitates in the midst of its course.
