  1. Any of a series of organic bases obtained by the reduction of compounds related to the nitrogenous radical NOH of the ketones. Typically, they are unstable oily substances with a pungent odor.
    — Pyrazine, aldine, C₄H₄N₂ (colourless prisms, M. Pt. 55°, B. Pt. 115°), possesses a basic character (B. 26, 721) and is the mother substance of the ketines, e.g. Ketine or dimethyl-pyrazine, C₄H₂ (CH₃ )₂ N₂, which is obtained by the reduction of isonitroso-acetone or the condensation of amido-acetone (p. 157; B. 19, 2524; 21, 19).
