  1. A long-chain fatty acid, also known by its IUPAC name of Heneicosanedioic acid. It was originally harvested from Japan wax.
    — According to Dr. Tsujimoto, the fatty acids of Haze tallow are composed of 84% palmitic acid, 14% oleic acid and 2% Japanic acid, and the tallow was regarded by the writer as a good source in Japan, for the preparation in a pure state, of palmitic acid.
