— On the way home she would buy something to heat on her oil stove and perhaps an orange or two bananas. Also an evening newspaper, the headliniest, pinkest of the lot. And every evening at 7:30 would come the postprandial enjoyment of literature for twenty minutes, to-wit: the reading of the headliney, pinky newspaper, from trials and divorce suits to beauty advice and comics, inclusive. Never having had her name in any paper, and therefore never having had it misspelled, she had no cause not to have confidence in the printed word. All she read she believed and she was happy in her faith.
