  1. A bundle of parallel arrays of fascicles, forming a sheath around tendons.
    — It expands on the surface of the tendon, forming a delicate, almost microscopic layer, the epitenon. Paratenon, epitenon, and mesotenon constitute the esotenon as opposed to the endotenon, the connected-tissue strands within the tendon.
