  1. To remove the small ripple of current that forms when a mechanical switch is pushed in an electrical circuit and makes a series of short contacts.
  2. To discard events or signals that should not be processed because they occurred too close together. broadly
    — With debouncing, we group several calls to the same events into one; with throttling, we are forcing our call to be executed no more than once per time period, such as a maximum of once per 400 ms.
