    — 1708, Dr. George Hickes, preface to Thomas Brett, The Divine Right of Episcopacy Asserted God hath left power to the Church, that is, to the Priests of the Church, to absolve all sinners who truly repent and believe in Him; and therefore directs the Confessary to absolve the confessing penitent of all his sins in the name, &c.
