    — An example of a more subtle indiscretion is using an "autogreet". This involves automatically sending a 'hello' message to everyone on a channel whenever you join (the IRC Primer warns against creating an autogreet, stating that "even if you think you are being polite, you are actually sounding insincere and also interfering with the personal environment of the recipient" (Pioch 1993:2)).
