  1. A zoonosis that can be passed from humans to other species as well as being passed from another species to a human.
    — Several of the agents on the list are the result of human beings' sharing parasites with other species (i.e., amphixenosis) because the parasite is not that finicky about its final host. Schistosoma japonicum is a fairly straightforward case of amphixenosis; the schistosome would be just as happy in a cow or in a cat, so is Trypenosoma cruzi.
