— HONAN NEW COOKING STOVE--Scores of new-type cooking stoves have been introduced into rural Honan Province. The new stoves, as compared with the old ones, generally save about 50 percent on such fuels as coal, firewood, and hay. There had been a shortage of firewood and hay in Chenping County, which has now become self-sufficient in these fuels since 83 percent of the rural families began to use the new stoves.

— China has succeeded in domesticating musk deer and obtaining the musk while the animal is alive. The Forestry Bureau in western Szechwan Province and a musk-deer farm in Chenping county, Shensi Province, have achieved this.
