— SHANSI ROADS.[…] In August of this year and immediately following fairly heavy rains in this district, the writer made three attempts in as many days to get out on to the Yutzu or Fenchowfu sections, but failed to do so even when using two coolies to the one ricksha.[…]Fig. 2 shows the customary neglect even in a main street running north and south through Yutzu, one of the most important commercial centers in the province. Yutzu is a walled city, and prior to 1913, when the Chengtai Railroad was completed, goods were forwarded to this place from the Chihli province for distribution.
