    — Danshui subprefecture (Danshui ting) was divided in 1875 into Danshui and Xinzhu counties. No Xinzhu county magistrate was appointed until the later part of 1878, however. The cases come from the office of the Danshui subprefect (Danshui fenfu) until 1878, and of the Xinzhu county court thereafter. We will refer to the entire set simply as the Dan-Xin archives, or as records of the Danshui-Xinzhu court.
