    — It is not so far to Hsiangsse Commune from Maotien. Only nine kilometres. But the way lies over a range of mountains through which the commune members, using a ton and a half of explosive most of which they made themselves, blasted a road a couple of winters ago. It not only connects the commune with Maotien, but also with another highway that leads into Tungcheng county of Hupeh province over its border.
