Tholm

英文释义
专有名词
- A toponym used on old maps, located some place between Alaska and Sierra Nevada
词源
From the name of an area in southern China mentioned by Marco Polo, later put by cartographers in area between Asia and America.
Before or after the Anian Strait was (most probably falsely) reported found by L. Maldonado, the Tholm-name was moved by the cartographers to the eastern side of this strait, becoming a location in America (together with Bergi and Anian, also from Marco Polo, and sometimes also Arsarot, derived from Arzareth found on old maps of northern China).
In later maps the toponym is moved further, into south-eastern side of Sierra Nevada.
