— Within Africa at least the following have to be clearly distinguished: Egyptian (42,500); Hassaniya (2,230), spoken in Mauritania and parts of Mali, Senegal and Niger; Moroccan (19, 542); Shua (1,031), spoken in parts of Chad, Cameroon, Nigeria and Niger; Sudanese (16,000-19,000), spoken mainly in northern Sudan but with speakers in Egypt and Eritrea; Algerian Colloquial (22,400), spoken also in Tunisia; and Salaimitian (4,500) spoken in parts of Libya and Egypt.
