Stl'atl'imx

— The Stl’atl’imx are an Interior Salish people who divide themselves into those of the ‘upper territory’ (including the areas around Lillooet) and the ‘lower territory’ or the Lower Lillooet River Valley ranging from Harrison Lake in the south to Lillooet Lake in the north. This paper focusses on the Stl’atl’imx of the Lower Lillooet River Valley who speak the Ucwalmícwts (‘ooKwale-MEWK) language. They are organised into the Xa’xtsa (pronounced HAHK-cha), Skatin and the Samahquam Nations.
