Sheung Shui

— Fan Ling has produced no holder of senior official titles. It makes a remote claim to official status from the achievement of an ancestor in the Song dynasty, whose portrait decorates one of the matsheds set up at the ta-tsiu.³¹ However, in the nineteenth century, it was included among the five great clans of the Sheung Shui area and was accepted into the New Alliance of the Po Tak temple at Sheung Shui market, membership of which implied gentry status.
