    — As mentioned, the 1st Middlesex occupied beach pill boxes extending along the west, south and eastern littoral from beneath Mount Davis in the West to Sau Kei Wan [Shau Kei Wan] Hill in the northeast. The Hong Kong Volunteers, mostly assigned to man weapons ranging from artillery to machine guns, together with various auxiliary units, supported these units.
