Heysham

— In 1897, The Midland Railway began the construction of a harbour at Heysham, to replace Morecambe, a few miles to the north, as the port for its steamer services to Northern Ireland. […] Today, Heysham is one of the busiest of Lancashire's smaller ports, with a tidal basin of 36 acres, and a depth of 45½ ft. and 17 ft. at high and low water respectively on spring tides.
