Refers to the district of Gazipur, a transliteration of গাজীপুর, ultimately a bilingual compound of Arabic غَازِي (ḡāzī, “warrior, ghazi”, construct state of غَازِ (ḡāzi)) + Bengali পুর (pura, “city”), named in honor of Fazl Gazi, one of the Baro Bhuyans of Bengal and the first zamindar of Bhawal Estate.
