    — According to the leading organ of the PLA units stationed along Fujian's coastal areas, since the publication of the "Message to Compatriots in Taiwan," PLA units along Fujian's coastal areas have not fired a single shot at KMT troopts in Dadan, Erdan, Jinmen [Quemoy], Mazu [Matsu] or other islands. During those 5 years, KMT troops stationed on the islands also have curtailed their shellings of the mainland.
  2. An island of Lieyu Township, Kinmen County, Taiwan.
    — Our defense area was in the main island of Kinmen, and after a short period of stationing, we were shifted to Lieyu in October 1957. The troops were stationed there until August 7 in the following year, when we were transferred to defend Erdan Island, which was still called “Er-dan” , rather than “Er-dǎn” the common name today.¹
