    — September, 1895. 1st.—The following telegram from Taipeh, indicates Japanese progress in Formosa:—"Chang-hua, the principal inland city, about half-way down the island, was taken by the Japanese on the 28th ult., after a battle in which the Chinese lost nearly six hundred, and the Japanese nine."
