    — The sea, of which a distant glimpse has been caught at Saundersfoot, is now close at hand, and the view extends to the cliffs at Giltar Point and the bold outlines of Caldy Island, a mile or so off shore.

From Old Norse kald ey (“cold island”), recorded as Caldea c.1120. An earlier spelling appearing on OS maps was Caldy Island, changed by 1982.
